Peach terms Jasper 'outstanding'

"If our team cannot get excited about this game, well...," said Darren Peach.

Peach was speaking Wednesday to the Mt. Carmel Boosters of Friday's game with the Jasper Wildcats, who visit Riverview Stadium at 7 p.m. Friday.

"They have an outstanding football team with a lot of seniors and experience. They have a big-time player who is going to a big-name Division I program in Luke Schmidt. This kid is just a great runner, and we have got to try to contain him. Their offensive line is big and aggressive and they get the job done for their backs."

"Another player that goes both ways is Sam Linette. He is a linebacker who loves to hit, and also runs at fullback. He is a kid that makes a lot of plays for them on both sides of the ball."

"You will see Jasper do a lot of running, but if they want, they have a quarterback that can pass the ball. He is another solid player."

Their offensive and defensive lines go just one way, so they seem to always have fresh people on the field."

Peach also reviewed the Washington game. He said he felt the Golden Aces "played really well."

"The offensive line did a great job of opening holes for our backs. The backs had a good night because of this, but they ran hard and broke tackles for their gains."

"I felt our defense really hit hard."

Peach also spoke about certain plays, and players, in this game.

"The defensive backs had a good game and picked off several passes, and made some great plays."

Boosters President Joe Vargo said the Lady Aces volleyball team dropped its second match of the season Tuesday at Edwards County and is now 9-2 on the year. The team travels to Mt. Vernon, Ind., for a Big eight Conference match tonight (Thursday).

Also today, the cross country team travels to Robinson for an Invitational, then goes to Vincennes on Saturday for the Big Eight Conference meet.

The golf team is scheduled to host Lawrenceville today after hosting Red Hill yesterday (Wednesday). They travel to Robinson for the Class A Regional on Monday.

Vargo also mentioned the law suit filed by 32 Illinois High School Association member schools concerning the multiplier the IHSA has assigned to private schools.
