Museum hosting photo workshop
Posted: Wednesday, Apr 19, 2006 - 04:03:16 pm EDT

The Wabash County Museum is offering a photo workshop by award-winning photographer Judy Bingman on Sunday, April 23, at 2 p.m. One session will be offered for adults and children. The fee is $5 per family.

Judy Mae Bingman began her freelance photography career while a student at the University of Illinois in Champaign-Urbana, where she graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in agricultural communications. She was co-owner of a popular cattle magazine, which showcased her photography work in the 1990s.

Now, Judy has returned to her first love, coordinating the 4-H program. She is the U of I Extension community worker in White County. She also freelances in both photography and journalism.

Her inspirational articles appear in The Carmi Times and on her Web site, www.LikeMyLife.com. She is a popular instructor at Southeastern Illinois College in topics ranging from photography to selling on eBay. Her students in photography have experienced success in the state 4-H photography competition at the Illlinois State Fair.

Judy has two children: Jenny will graudate from high school and attend Southern Illinois University in the fall, and Wil will graduate from middle school and attend Carmi-White County High School in the fall. Both are award-winning photographers.

The photo workshop is part of a series of programs during the “Here On the Banks of the Wabash” exhibit. May 2 will be the opening day for a traveling photo exhibit, “Illinois Southern Shores” from photographer D. Gorton of SIU Carbondale. The exhibit showcases scenes from counties along the Ohio River.

On May 7, Dr. Jane Adams of SIU will present a PowerPoint talk of the stories behind the intriguing photos. The photo exhibit will be featured up through the end of June.

The Wabash County Museum is located at 320 Market St. in Mt. Carmel and is open each Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday afternoon from 2 to 5 p.m., and at other times by appointment for tours and meetings by groups.
