The Wabash Valley College Warriors are off until Dec. 1-2, when they will hold another Classic.

The Lady Warriors, though, are at St. Catherine, Ky., on Tuesday.

The Great Rivers Athletic Conference looks to be very competitive again this year. Only one team has a losing record. John A. Logan is 5-0 with a win at Vincennes. Rend lake is at 6-1 while Southeastern Illinois is 5-1, as is Olney Central. Wabash Valley is 5-2. Last year’s champion, Southwestern Illinois, is 4-1. Kaskaskia is 3-2, and on a three-game winning streak. Lincoln Trail is 2-2.

The only team struggling is Lake Land, at 0-3. An unusual thing about Lake Land is that all three opponents have scored 106 points against them.

Former Warriors

Three former Warriors at the University of North Carolina-Charlotte, 1-2, Antwon Coleman, Carlos Williams and Jerell Jamison. In a 79-67 loss to Syracuse, Coleman had five points, Williams eight and Jamison six. Coleman has started all three games, and averages about 19 minutes. He scored 7.0 points per game and 3.0 rebounds per game. Williams has started all three games and averages 26 minutes while scoring 7.0 ppg. Jamison has played in all three and averages 3.0 ppg in five minutes per game.

At the University of Tennessee-Chattanooga Mocs, 2-2, Kevin Bridgewaters has played in all four games. He averages 22 minutes, 3.8 ppg and 1.3 rebounds per game. He has handed out 11 assists and has three steals.

Vincent James, at UNC-Ashville, 1-2, is averaging 24 minutes, 9.3 ppg, and 2.7 rpg. He has two blocks and three steals.

The University of Indianapolis greyhounds are 1-1. Senior Scott Strahm has averaged 18 minutes in both games. He has not scored but has averaged 4.5 assists per game with no turnovers.

Darren Cloud, who redshirted at WVC last year after being injured, is at South Alabama, 3-1, where he is averaging 5.0 minutes per game as a freshman eligible. He has only one point and three rebounds.

Tony Allen is in his third year with he Boston Celtics, 4-7. He has been in 10 of the 11 games and is averaging 14 minutes. Allen is scoring 5.1 ppg and rebounding 1.6 per game. He is hitting 46.4 percent from the field and 76.9 from the line. Boston had a four-game wining streak broken Wednesday, by 92-83. Allen scored seven in that game.

Hiram Fuller was the last player cut by the Utah Jazz. Coach Jerry Sloan had nothing but praise for Fuller. Fuller had 27 points and two rebounds in six pre-season games. Sloan was impressed with Fuller’s physical play and hard work. Fuller was in four games for Atlanta last year, scoring eight points and pulling down 11 rebounds.

Former Lady Warriors coach Jim Whitsell, now at Loyola of Chicago, has the Ramblers at 4-1. Pat Smith, in his first year at Trinity Valley in Texas, is 2-3. Mark Coomes and the UI-Chicago Flames are off to a slow start, at 0-3. Rick Hughes is out of coaching and selling insurance.
