Lady Warriors softball goes 1-1 on first day of Florida trip

The Wabash Valley College Lady Warriors softball team is 1-1 after action Monday in Pensacola, Fla.
WVC took a 5-4 decision from Kalamazoo Valley from Kalamazoo, Mich., in eight innings, but then dropped a 3-1 game to Faulkner State of Bay Minette, Ala.
Kelly Ottis started the first game and went 6.0 innings. She gave up one run on two hits with seven strike outs. Carrie Wilderman pitched 2.0 innings and gave up three runs on two hits with a strike out.
WVC scored two in the third, and Kalamazoo answered with one in the fourth. WVC scored a run in the fifth, then Kalamazoo tied it with two in the top of the seventh.
Kalamazoo put a run across the plate in the eighth, but WVC won it with two in the bottom of the frame.
Laura Wuebbels was two for four with a two-run homer in the third and two RBIs. Hillary Pollard was two for four and had the game-tying RBI in the eighth. Claire Heumann was one for one with the game-winning RBI. Amanda Mackey was two for three with two stolen bases, and Ashley Eberhard was one for four with a RBI.
Kalamazoo Valley fell to 0-1.
Kelly Beattie started the second game and lasted 1.2 innings. She gave up three runs on three hits and two walks. Amanda Hill went 4.1 innings and gave p five hits.
All three Faulkner State runs came in the second. WVC’s run came in the sixth.
Amanda Maurer was two for three with WVC’s RBI. Wuebbels was one for three, as was Eberhard.
WVC had two games scheduled with the University of West Florida today (Tuesday), an NCAA Division II school.
