A pretrial hearing was scheduled for April 9 at 1 p.m. in the case of Scottie R. Cole, 17, of Mt. Carmel following a brief court hearing Monday afternoon before Circuit Judge Steve Sawyer in Wabash County Circuit Court.
State’s Attorney Christopher M. Quick produced discovery evidence requested by defense attorneys George Woodcock and William Hudson in the procedural hearing.
Cole pleaded not guilty on Feb. 26 to two felony counts of aggravated battery, as a defendant in a case involving several teens in an alleged Dec. 29, 2006, beating of two local teenagers. The court was proceeding on a Bill of Indictment returned on Feb. 16 by a Wabash County Grand Jury in the charges against Cole and a second defendant Marcus W. Adams, also 17.
At hearings held Feb. 26, Judge Sawyer set a May 7 jury trial in the Cole case.
Defense attorney Jay Walden will represent Adams in a jury trial, and Judge Sawyer during the Feb. 26 hearings, set a pretrial conference for Adams on March 26 at 1 p.m. Adams also is charged with two felony counts of aggravated battery.
A total of nine teenage males — including four minors — are facing various charges in connection with alleged attacks on two other teen males.
