Lady Warriors softball demolishes Southeastern

HARRISBURG - The Wabash Valley College Lady Warriors softball team outscored the Southeastern Illinois College Lady Falcons, 56-3, in a double header Wednesday.

WVC took the opener, 32-2, then won the second game, 24-1. Both games went only five innings.

Kelly Ottis improved to 5-0 in the first game. She went 3.0 innings and gave up three hits and a walk with three strikeouts.

Kelly Beattie pitched 2.0 innings and gave up two runs, one earned, on two hits.

WVC opened with a five-run first. Alyssa Hoffman singled and Amanda Mackey walked. Megan Shadrick singled, but Hoffman was out at the plate. The runners advanced, though. Ashley Eberhard singled in both runners, then Laura Wuebbels was hit by a pitch. Claire Heumann walked to load the bases. Brittany Ferguson drew a walk, forcing in a run, and then Emily Westhus was safe on an error, with a run scoring. Hoffman delivered a RBI single with two down.

WVC sent 16 batters to the plate in a 13-run second. Westhus had a two-run homer, Hoffman and Wuebbels both had two-run doubles, and Hillary Pollard added a two-run single.




WVC added five in the third, six in the fourth and three in the fifth.

In addition to eight WVC walks, the Lady Falcons had six errors.

Shadrick was four for six with Hoffman going three for four with three RBIs. Wuebbels was two for four with four RBIs and four runs scored. Amanda Hill was three for three with two RBIs and Leah Emerick was one for two with three RBIs.

Carrie Wilderman improved to 3-1 in the second game. She went 3.0 innings and gave up one run, earned, on two hits. Hill pitched 2.0 innings and gave up a hit with four strike outs.

WVC got two in the first as Mackey drew a one-out walked, and Shadrick singled. Eberhard was hit by a pitch and Amanda Maurer added a sacrifice fly. Ferguson drew a walk and Westhus was hit by a pitch to force in a run.

Shadrick had a two-run homer in the second, as WVC scored seven. Maurer and Emerick both had two-run homers in the third in a six-run inning for WVC. Pollard added a two-run homer in a three-run fourth. WVC added six in the fifth.

Emerick was four for five with a home run and three RBIs while Pollard was three for five with three RBIs and a home run. Shadrick was three for four with two RBIs and a home run, and Westhus was one for two with three RBIs and a home run.
