By BILL HACKLER - Special Correspondent

It’s mid-April, but plans are already being made for the Mt. Carmel Boosters Golf Outing.

The outing, coordinated again by Todd Gill, will be in mid-June.

Discussions then shifted to Mt. Carmel High School athletics with Darrell Huey noting the Golden Aces tennis team is 4-0. Huey said the team is young with only seven members. It has some tough matches in the up-coming weeks, starting with Salem tomorrow (Friday). Huey said Salem always had a good team and this match will be a test for Mt. Carmel.

Huey also noted Mt. Carmel’s 9-0 win over Olney, the first win over the Tigers since 1999.

Doug Spear, assistant athletic director for MCHS, on reported the Lady Aces track team’s Invitational meet, scheduled for later that day (Wednesday), and the Golden Aces track meet today (Thursday). The Aces will run against Princeton, always competitive in track.

Spear also noted how weather has caused several cancellations, and work being done on rescheduling.

Aaron Piening said the baseball Aces are 3-4, and broke a three-game losing streak with Monday’s win over Vincennes Rivet. The team had been struggling after spring break. He noted the two Big Eight Conference losses to Jasper and Vincennes. Piening said the Aces got good pitching and hitting, late in the game, in the Rivet win. The Aces have a 4:30 p.m. game today against Olney.

The Lady Aces softball team has a game today at Hamilton County, and at Carmi on Monday.

The Clash on the Wabash was noted, a pair of high school All Star basketball games to be played at Wabash Valley College tomorrow. The girls game will begin at 6 p.m. with the boys game to follow. The teams will be from Indiana and Illinois.

Matt Painter, Purdue University head coach, will speak at Monday’s WVC Warriors Basketball Awards Dinner. Tickets are still available through the WVC Basketball Office.

Verlin Snow, Boosters’ treasurer, reported donations made to the Golden Aces football program, the boys basketball dinner, held Tuesday, and the purchase of new basketball jerseys. Joe Vargo, Boosters’ president, said he is proud to be a part of the organization since it does many good things for the MCHS Athletic Department. Vargo noted the participation at the boys basketball dinner, held Tuesday. Spear also expressed appreciation for the Boosters and what they have done.

The Boosters have shifted their meetings to the Eagles; the group meets at noon on Wednesday’s.
