Lady Aces softball nips Hamilton County, 3-2

McLEANSBORO - The Mt. Carmel Lady Aces scored a run in the top of the eighth Thursday to take a 3-2 decision from the Hamilton County Lady Foxes.
“It is hard to begin a game behind,” said Coach Jenny Hannuksela. “However, the girls are finally coming together as a team and were able to focus.”
Maddie Thompson was on the hill and gave up two runs, both earned, on six hits and two walks with four strike outs.
Chelsea Steele pitched for Hamilton County and gave up three runs, all earned, on five hits and three walks.
In the eighth, with the score tied, Thompson singled, then both Courtney Dunkel and Courtney Saxe reached base on errors.
Hamilton County got a run in the first as Steele walked with one down, and Nikki Ojala reached base on an error. Jessica Hastings added a single.
Mt. Carmel tied it in the second. Dunkel singled with one down, and came around to score.
The Lady Aces took a 2-1 lead in the sixth. Keturah Richison singled with one down, then Jessica Kieffer was safe on a two-out error. Anna Walls also reached base on an error.
Hamilton County tied it in the seventh as Ojala singled, Hastings reached base on an error.
“We will continue working on keeping our errors to a minimum, and seeing more action with our bats. But this win was a big step as a team,” said Hannuksela.
Dunkel was two for four to lead MCHS. Erin Prince was two for four to lead Hamilton County.
