The District 348 Board of Education approved the amended 2006-2007 budget during its regular monthly session Monday night, after a public hearing at which Superintendent Tim Buss explained its necessity.
Buss said five of the district’s funds had received additional revenue while two funds had additional expenses. The funds with higher balances were Education, Building and Grounds, Bond and Interest, Transportation and Working Cash. Illinois Municipal Retirement Fund/Social Security and Health/Life Safety had expenses above what was projected.
Overall, the district will have $77,671 more than it expected to have when the fiscal year ends Saturday, June 30. The five fund’s additional revenue totals $178,423 with the two fund’s additional expense totaling $100,752.
The Education Fund was projected to have a balance of $649,152 as of June 30, 2007, but will actually have a balance of $752,437, an increase of $103,285. The Building and Grounds fund was projected to have $148,111 but will have a balance of $182,672, up $37,561. Bond and Interest was projected at $229,700 will finish the year at $243,692, an increase of $13,992. Transportation will have a balance of $263,277, as opposed to an expected $247,269, up by $16,008. And Working Cash will be at $405,704, rather than the expected $398,127, up by $7,577.
But the IMRF/SS fund will be at $94,486, or $37,552 lower than the expected $132,038. And the Health/Life Safety fund will finish the year at $237,379, down $63,200 from the expected $300,579.
“The projections were pretty close,” Buss told the board during the public hearing.
In other financial matters, Buss reported the Lunch and Breakfast Program had a balance of $60,488, or approximately $5,000 more than it had one year ago, and the board also approved a resolution for the purchase of two buses at a total of $136,622.
