Little Miss 2008

Five-year-old McKenna Golden of Mt. Carmel was crowned Little Miss Ag Days 2008 during the annual pageant on the Ag Days stage Wednesday night in uptown Mt. Carmel. Twenty young ladies, each certainly worthy of representing Wabash County and wearing the coveted tiara, brought smiles and cheers from the Ag Days crowd during the 2008 Little Miss Ag Days pageant held in uptown Mt. Carmel Wednesday.

In the end, it was 5-year-old McKenna Golden who came out on top, taking the title of Little Miss ’08. The daughter of Danny and Jody Golden of Mt. Carmel won the judges over in an event that is a long-standing Ag Days tradition.

First runner-up Wednesday night was Kristyn Wyatt of Allendale, daughter of Jeff Wyatt and Erica Coram. And second-runner up honors went to Eboney Goodman, daughter of Tom and Brandy Goodman of Mt. Carmel.

Emcee Scott Allen hosted interviews with each of the young contestants Wednesday night before a large crowd of Little Miss friends, family and fairgoers — something that has become a bit of an Ag Days tradition for himself, personally.

Allen estimated before the start of the pageant that, in his 29 years of being a radio personality in Mt. Carmel, Wednesday’s was probably his 25th or 26th emceeing experience on the Little Miss Ag Days stage.

Judges for this year’s pageant were Joan Williams of Princeton, Ind., Gibson County (Ind.) Fair Queen Leia Barrett, and Edwards County Fair Queen Michele Woods.

The Little Miss experience began weeks ago for 20 young ladies, as store owner Cathy Kieffer and staff at C&C Kid’s Stop sponsored, and hosted, the 2008 pageant. Practices, photo shoots and some last-minute inspiring words from Kieffer herself led up to the young ladies walking down the sidewalk at Ag Days and taking the stage.

“You are all winners,” Kieffer told the excited girls before they left the shop and participated in the pageant Wednesday.

Contestants this year were treated to a bevy of prizes, including trophies, compliments of contest organizers and a host of local businesses.
