There’s no talent required. Just bring the family, your creativity, and if you want, you can even dress up for the occasion.
Carving for a Cause Family Pumpkin Fest celebrates its second year in Warrick County, an event created by Relay for Life of Warrick County coordinators as a way to raise additional funds for the American Cancer Society while providing lots of gooey fun. This year’s event will be held this Saturday, Oct. 11, from 4 to 8 p.m. on the courthouse square in Boonville.
Scoop out a gourd and carve up some fun in the Pumpkin Carving Contest, beginning at 7 p.m. Pumpkins will be available to purchase for $5. All of the money goes toward the Relay for Life of Warrick County, thanks to the generous donation of pumpkins by Engelbrecht Orchards. And the best work of art will win the carver two one-day passes to Holiday World & Splashin’ Safari for the 2009 season.
What festival would be complete without games, rides and clowns? Kids of all ages can enjoy inflatables, almost a dozen games, some clowning around and a hay ride. Tickets for these activities will be sold for 25 cents apiece or — for more bang for your buck — five for $1.
Food, including pulled pork, walking tacos and baked goods, will be available for purchase. Vendors will also offer crafts, hand-knitted items and more.
Those who can’t wait for Halloween are invited to dress up for the Costume Contest, beginning at 6 p.m. Participants of all ages are encouraged to show off their style for the chance to win the grand prize, a photography package donated by a local studio.
For more chances to win great prizes, like gift certificates to local restaurants and more, all you have to do is show up! Attendance prizes, including a secret grand prize from Escalade Sports, will be given throughout the event.
For more information about the event, feel free to contact Terry and Debbie Best at 853-9113.
Relay for Life is the American Cancer Society’s signature event. The annual relay raises funds for the numerous projects the society supports.
Funds help with advocacy, cancer patient support programs — including a wig bank, providing rides to chemotherapy and radiation appointments, education resources, 24/7 telephone support, etc., research, smoking cessation materials and more.
