Boonville girls volleyball receive 2008 awards; Collins named All-State

The Boonville High School volleyball team recently handed out awards for the varsity, junior varsity and freshman teams.
On the varsity team, Megan Collins was named Most Valuable Player. Dusty Persinger won the Sportsmanship Award. Meagan Collins scored the most kills with 509 and the most blocks with 72 total, 47 assists and 25 solo; Mackenzie Castleman had the most service aces with 52 and the most digs with 439; and Kiersten Owen had the most assists with 715. Meagan Collins and Kiersten Owen were both named to the All-Conference Team and Collins was named to the First Team All-State and is able to tryout for the South All-Star Team.
The varsity team placed second in the Boonville Round-Robin Tournament, fourth in the Pioneer Invitational, went 3-1 in the Jeffersonville Tournament, 0-3 in the Providence Early-Bird Tournament, were sectional and regional champions, and were state finalists.
On the junior varsity team, Alex Childress was named Most Valuable Player. Chantelle Pennington won the Sportsmanship Award. The team placed first at both the Boonville Round Robin and the Southridge tournaments.
On the freshman team, Leah Bond was named Most Valuable Player. Haley Baker won the Sportsmanship Award. The team placed first in both the Boonville Frosh Tournament and a Round Robin with Mater Dei and Heritage Hillsand placed second in another Round Robin with Jasper and Castle.
Boonville’s Meagan Collins was named to the 2008 ICGSA Volleyball class 3A All-State team.. Also, Boonville’s Mary Cox was named as a class 3A 2008 ICGSA Volleyball State Coach of the Year.
