GRAYVILLE, Ill. - Grayville Mayor Henry S. Kijonka is resigning his post effective at midnight on Nov. 17, citing health and personal reasons in a letter Tuesday to local officials. He submitted his letter of resignation to City Clerk JoEllen Seil.
Kijonka was Democrat candidate for 54th State Senate District in November 2008 and was defeated by incumbent State Senator John O. Jones (R-Mt. Vernon). He had been elected Mayor of Grayville on April 17, 2007.
In recent months Kinjonka has spent some time at a second home out of state. Kijonka is a retired Illinois state trooper.
Grayville, Ill., population approximately 1,800, is situated about 17 miles southwest of Mt. Carmel on Route 1.
