Mt. Carmel sports figures featured in new book, ‘Local Legends II’

Posted: Tuesday, October 9, 2012 10:47 am

In 2008, local author Ron Eaton of Evansville released “Local Legends: The Stories behind the Headlines,” a book about the rich sports history of southwestern Indiana. Within its pages were stories about Jerry Sloan, Don Mattingly, Bob Griese, Gil Hodges, Mike Pegram and over 100 more. The book was successful, and now Eaton is releasing “Local Legends II: The Stories Continue,” a sequel that spans over 60 years but brings the subject up to date.

Local Legends II is a beautifully constructed coffee table-style book with over 250 full-color pages of stories and photos that reveal the details of such subjects as Mt. Carmel’s Tyra Buss, Don Liddle and legendary football program, 2009 Princeton Tigers State champions, Princeton basketball phenom Jackie Young, Gibson Southern softball, Curtis Painter, and the Vincennes Rivet girls basketball program. LL II also includes stories about Marty Simmons, Rex Mundi High School, ‘Little Dickey’ Kinder of Winslow, Jeff Overton, Wayne Boultinghouse, Evansville College football, and the Jim Crews era at UE.
