PRINCETON - Gibson County Health Dept. offers another H1N1 vaccine clinic at the public health department Monday from 3-7 p.m.

Public Health Nurse Kanda Walden said Tuesday the next clinic offers nasal mist vaccine for people ages 2-49 and injectable vaccine for children from ages 6-35 months. No injectable vaccine will be available for anyone over the age of 35 months, she reported.

The nasal mist is targeted for healthy people ages 2-49 years, she reported. Those not eligible for the mist incude anyone younger than two years, anyone age 50 or older and anyone with asthma, wheezing or other underlying health condition.

The clinics are conducted at the health department offices located in the county's South Annex building at 800 South Prince Street.

Walden said the department receives vaccine on a weekly basis, and will schedule clinics as it is received.

"Be patient," she reiterated.

Tuesday morning she asked Gibson County Commissioners for a one-time waiver on the county's "use it or lose it" rule on vacation time. She said employees in her department had scheduled vacation time off this fall, but the H1N1 clinics are "slamming" the staff's resources.

Walden said vacation time in her department ranges from four days for some employees to up to 10 days. "We would like to carry over up to 10 days into the first three months of next year."

Commissioners promised to check into the request.

"I think we're going to set something there that opens the door for other departments," mused commissioner Gerald Bledsoe.

"We don't want you to lose your vacation days, we just don't want to cause an audit problem," explained County Attorney Jim McDonald. He suggested County Auditor Mary Key consult the Indiana State Board of Accounts about the issue of paying for benefits next year that were budgeted for this year.
