OAKLAND CITY-A city resident is facing a eight drug-related charges after police say a working meth lab was found early Sunday morning in the garage at his home.
According to the Oakland City Police Dept., Officer Michael Collins found the alleged meth lab at the RR 1 home of William E. Galbraith, 41, after smelling ether and anhydrous ammonia while on patrol in the area. Police were able to obtain a search warrant for the property, and following their noses, pinpointed the source of the smell to the garage at Galbraith's home.
In that garage Collins said he discovered a “working meth lab," including items commonly used to cook meth, such as anhydrous ammonia; ether; pseudoephedrine; and 15 grams of the finished product. Also in the garage, officers found and arrested two suspects - Galbraith and Terry Lee, 47, also of Oakland City.
Galbraith was charged with felony counts of manufacturing meth over 3 grams; dealing meth over 3 grams; possession of anhydrous ammonia while in possession of a firearm; possession of meth while in possession of a firearm; possession of a controlled substance over 3 grams; and possession of chemical precursors. He was also charged with misdemeanor counts of illegal storage of anhydrous ammonia and possession of marijuana over 30 grams.
Lee is facing a felony charge of possession of meth over 3 grams. But police said additional charges may be brought against Lee.
Both men remained in custody at the Gibson County Jail as of Sunday night.
The Indiana State Police Clandestine Lab Team dismantled the lab and cleaned up the chemicals found at the scene. Also assisting the OCPD, were the Francisco Police Dept., the Gibson County Sheriff's Dept., the Columbia Twp. and Oakland City fire departments, and the Gibson County Ambulance Service.
