EVANSVILLE - Merril J. Christensen, 91, formerly of Cynthiana, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, Oct. 30, 2009 at the VNA Charlier Hospice Center.

Born June 10, 1918 in Norman County, Minnesota, he was the son of John and Martha (Nelson) Christensen.

Merril was a retired farmer and worked in road construction. He was a member of the First Christian Church in Owensville. He served on the Cynthiana Town Council, Liberty Cemetery Board and was president of Cynthiana Senior Citizens .

Survivors include daughters, Karen Hopkins, Bonnie and son-in-law, David Munro all of Evansville; grandchildren, Bryce and Tricia Anker, Derrik and Tiffany Anker, Denise and Chris Henne, Ryan and Idalid Byrns, Aaron Hopkins; great-grandchildren, Morgan and Tegan Henne, Kevin Forero, Dylan Byrns, Hannah,Hunter, Jake and Love Anker; a brother, Robert Christensen of Eusits,Fla.; sisters, Doris Wiger of Fargo, ND and Ina Mae Johnson of Gilbert, Minn.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Vivian Christensen; brothers, Kenneth and Donald Christensen; a great-grandson, Devin McMullan.

Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Monday Nov. 2, 2009 at Holders Funeral Home in Owensville with Bart Newton will officiating. Burial will be at Liberty Cemetery in Cynthiana.

Visitation will be 11 a.m. until the service hour on Monday at the funeral home.
