At our house we go back to college days when we would enjoy a special pizza place where a sign warned,
SOME PIZZAS TAKE LONGER THAN OTHERS
We have used that phrase to explain a multitude of happenings in our lives. Some things happen so fast and so easily. Others seem to never get to where you want. It isn't always when we want it. And God says it is in His time, not ours.
I thought of our pizza sign while standing in the parking lot of the beautiful new surgery center, officially opened Sunday in Princeton.
Dr. Satar told the assembled crowd that he and other investors had wanted that day to come for more than 15 years.
His planning and hard work turned out to be an exquisite, state-of-the-art facility that gives patients and practitioners a comfortable, modern and close-to-home medical facility for outpatient tests and surgeries in many areas.
We encourage our hospital and the doctor-investors in the new facility to work closely together to control costs and keep all aspects of medical care healthy in our community.
But the point here is that something of such magnitude takes some years to come together. It does not just happen. And it takes someone to take a risk with their investment and stand up to get the job done.
I thought also of another grand opening I attended this week, Gibson County Quality Assurance Inc. It is located in one of Mike Crabtree's metal buildings in an industrial park on South Main in Princeton.
Jeff Meeks, a local resident, started the company a year ago with eight people. A year later they have 163 employed in multiple functions. One of their big jobs is inspecting and preparing the seat covers that TISA uses on new seats for the popular Sienna mini-van.
Talk about an entrepreneur. Jeff's pizza didn't take long to make, and it looks like his ovens are baking at full speed. Still it takes an investor with a good idea and the guts to take the chance.
Both projects create jobs for Gibson County. They create taxes to support government. And they contribute to an economy that many others depend on.
And the base economic engine, Toyota, seems to be humming along too. They recently opened a new family center complex with a company store, pharmacy and credit union.
Fronting new softball diamonds and a nature trail, these facilities help round out the Toyota presence in our community.
While some pizzas take longer than others, we have a lot of dough to enjoy these days, thanks to investment and forward thinking of our own pizza makers.
Welcome to the discussion.
