Princeton Community's first All-Big Eight Conference scrimmage position player since 2001. Two All-Pocket Athletic Conference players from Gibson Southern, and the Titans' third 1,000-yard rusher in three years.
They highlight the Daily Clarion All-Gibson County Football Team, a 24-man group including 13 from Gibson Southern, 7 from Wood Memorial and 4 from Princeton.
Five are repeaters from the 2008 all-county team, including Gibson Southern senior Josh Sollman, chosen as a punter after playing tight end a year ago.
Princeton linebacker Jake Thacker and Gibson Southern linemen Garrett Hartig, Josh Hurt and Vince Bowden also return.
Tigers senior R.J. Morris, 6-foot-3, 245-pound offensive tackle, center, defensive end and linebacker, made the All-Big Eight Team as a defensive lineman. He led the Tigers in tackles with 81 solos and 51 assists, including 6 for losses.
Hartig, a 6-3, 275-pound three-year starter, made the All-PAC Team at offensive tackle. Classmate Josh Wildman, a 5-10, 157pounder, was so honored at cornerback.
Titans junior Matt Brown, following the footsteps of Torrey Chavis in 2007 and quarterback Cody Michel in 2008, topped 1,000 yards rushing when he ran for 286 in a sectional-opening win over Vincennes Lincoln. The 5-9, 162-pounder closed with 1,077 yards, 4.9 per carry, and 9 touchdowns.
Wood Memorial junior Sean Reiner, in his second year as a starter, became the all-county quarterback. Though frequently under heavy pressure, Reiner completed 146 of 303 passes for 1,857 yards and 13 touchdowns, plus a trio of two-point conversions. In three games he passed for over 300 yards. Many of his 26 interceptions came from taking risks in trying to rally the Trojans from behind.
Junior Nick Powers led the county in receiving, stretching his 6-foot, 150-pound frame to 52 catches that brought 669 yards and 3 touchdowns.
Classmate Kenan Bajzath made 39 catchers for 423 yards and 4 touchdowns, senior Austin Gregory 20 catches for 453 yards and 4 scores.
Wood Memorial's Keagan Akles, a gritty 165-pound senior, proved a two-way standout. Offensively, Akles led the Trojans with 477 yards and 7 touchdowns rushing while averaging 3.7 per carry, and he made 26 catches for 283 yards and another touch. At middle linebacker, he led his team with 75 solo tackles.
The Trojans' Brad Hart, a 6-foot, 215-pound senior, is cited for his center play. Junior Michael Georges played beyond his 175 pounds as a two-way lineman.
Thacker, a 6-4, 240-pounder, made 77 solo tackles 45 assists. Four tackles were sacks.
Classmate Zach Pedigo, a gritty 180--pounder who played multiple positions, played through injuries and made 33 solo tackles while assisting on 19. He also intercepted two passes, one a 30-yard touchdown return,
Tigers senior Terrence Young, a 6-3, 175-pounder, proved the county's top deep receiving threat. His catches limited because Princeton was seldom able to pass in late-season, Young averaged 24.5 yards on each of 12 catches, 4 for touchdowns. One score came on an 88-yard play.
Hartig and the 6-4, 260-pound Hurt at tackle, plus the 238-pound Bowden and 215-pound sophomore Coleman Sheridan at guard helped clear room for Brown. So did 6-3, 186-pound tight end Stephen Fenton, who also made 14 catches for 157 yards.
Titans senior Logan DeWeese, also an all-county soccer player, kicked two field goals against South Spencer.
He hit another that made the difference in a 17-14 win over Tell City, also hit one in the sectional-opening win over Vincennes Lincoln.
Like DeWeese and Sollman, who averaged 32.6 yards on punts that he placed well enough that only 10 were returned, senior Dillen Friend earned All-PAC honorable mention. A defensive lineman, Friend figured in 43 tackles including 10 for losses, and he scored the Titans' first touchdown vs. Vincennes Lincoln on a 13-yard interception return.
Two-hundred-one-pound junior Logan Knight stood out defensively as a lineman and sometimes as a linebacker. He made a team-leading 52 solo tackles and assisted on 21. Classmate Lee Williams, a 190-pounder, is chosen as a linebacker after 42 solo tackles and 31 assists.
Senior Cameron Holzmeyer joined Wildman in giving Gibson Southern the county's best set of cornerbacks. Wildman intercepted five passes, Holzmeyer four.
