Beating the number three ranked team in the state on their home field in constant rain proved to be too many obstacles to overcome for the Pioneers in the second round of the sectional tournament. Boonville fell to Jasper, 28-0, Friday night.

After winning the Big 8 conference, Boonville set their sights on the sectional championship.

Castle North Middle School sixth grader Nick Forche was recently chosen to represent the United States as a member of Coast to Coast Baseball in Puerto Rico this spring. During the seven day program, Forche will compete against top amateur teams from greater San Juan while receiving instruction from Coast to Coast staff who have all played or coached the game at the collegiate or professional level. The same staff will provide college recruiting information to both players and parents in seminar format during the trip.

The Newburgh Knights 14U fastpitch girls travel softball team tied for 9th place out of 44 teams in the World Series held this summer in Disney's Wide World of Sports Complex in Kissimmee, Fla. The Newburgh Knights were knocked out of the tournament by the Arkansas Livewires, who took first place overall.

The Boonville Gold 11U baseball team poses after winning the 2009 Bombs and Balance tournament in Bowling Green, Ky., held Sept. 19 and 20. The team went 4-0 to win the title and have now won three of their last five tournaments. Team members are Ryan Lockard, Sam Helms, Caleb Helms, Brice Thompson, Drew Ashley, Chase Gross, Evan Garrison, Dalton Peerman, Walker Paris, Kade Fleming and Neil Hayhurst. Coaches are Chad Ashley, Mark Peerman and George Fleming.

The Department of Natural Resources asks hunters and anyone else who comes across Canadian geese, mourning doves or wood ducks that have been banded to report the information on the band to the national Bird Banding Laboratory.

Friday evening, the Boonville Football Pioneers traveled across the bridge at Henderson, Ky., down the Pennyrile Parkway for a few miles past Madisonville, where they peeled off the parkway and down into a valley.
